Karen B. Schapira is a shareholder at Greenspoon Marder’s Florida Health Law Center. Her practice includes the formation and establishment of entities, commercial transactions, probate, estate planning, resolution of complex probate matters, and administrative appeals. As a commercial transactional practitioner, she has experience drafting and interpreting governing documents, commercial leases, and all agreements related to the formation, operation, and dissolution of  corporate entities.

Prior to joining the Florida Health Law Center, Ms. Schapira represented a multi-facility medical  district concentrating on recovery of medical claims. As a result, she is well-versed in medical insurance benefits and provider contractual and statutory rights. She has experience with government and commercial medical insurance benefits, including self-insured plans and the resolution of claim disputes. She is also able to assist providers with the audit and dispute of Medicare and Medicaid claims for overpayment; the audit and preparation of a voluntary refunds subsequent to governmental requests for information, and the representation of physicians in a myriad of legal matters being raised by government and commercial payors in the current healthcare environment.

Ms. Schapira regularly presents educational seminars to providers and administrative staff training topics such as navigating Florida professional regulations for CME fulfillment; best methods to avoid unnecessary insurance and government audits, or in the event of an audit, to mitigate the subsequent damages during the pendency of the appeals process.
